Sir:-
I am directed by Secretary Sir Edward Grey to transmit
to you herewith copy of a despatch from His Majesty' s
Consul General at Shanghai relative to the estate of George
Ford, a British subject, who died in Japan in 1888, together]
with copies of minutes on the case by the Legal Advisers to
this department.
Sir E. Grey would be glad to be furnished with such
observations with regard to the law and practice of the
Colony of Hongkong in regard to "bona vacantia" as Mr.
Secretary Harcourt may be good enough to offer.
